I am Thankful for.. October 11, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — sheilakurtz @ 11:03 pm

Today we had 20 people over for a Thanksgiving dinner.. Yes, it’s true. In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October while we still have leaves on the trees, and the harvest is coming in. I am so thankful for a few things this year:

1. The harvest itself. Living in a rural community, this summer full of rain put harvest in jeopardy, but we have had a week or more now of harvest conditions, I am thankful as I watch my farming neighbors bringing in their crops.

 2. Dinner today was especially fantastic because Mikes dad, who had not been in o ur home for at  least 3 years because of health, not only made it into our home with all its stairs, but over to the studio later to see it, and to have his photo taken with his wife, my mother in law, Mady…as their 50th anniversary is fast a pproaching this month!

3. Friends made through the business of photography… Truly the last year has been one of growth for me, and as I head in a little bit of a new direction, I am truly thankful for those who I have felt a kinship with  not only because of photography, but because of the genuine kind people they are. Thank you  Crystal, Heather, Jan, Kyla, Angie, Radelle for all your kind words and encouragement!

4. My clients. Of course without your faith and trust in me to take your special photographs, I wouldn’t be growing like I have in the past year. Your generosity when I asked for help with the “Trimm for Brynn” fundraiser truly touched my heart. I hope I can repay the generosity in the coming year with some special days just for all my clients (stay tuned….)

5. My senior spokesmodels this year…. Rayelle, Raven, Hannah, Madi and Aniko! What fun girls you were, and to go out on a shoot all together was truly a blast for me!. You are all beautiful, radiant, young women witht he world in the palm of your hand. Don’t ever sell yourself short, and shoot for the stars in this your last year in high school!

If I were to give “toughest bride” awards out.. Jolayne would definitely be given it ! I myself was married in the fall..in fact, my 22(yikes) anniversary is tomorrow…I thought it would be beautiful with the fall colors and crisp autumn air…and it was. I bet Ryan and Jolayne were thinking the same thing…. and had no idea what mother nature was cooking up! I arrived at the Cobblestone Manor at 7 am in the snow! Poor girl, or so I thought. Not one complaint was heard from her lips (too in love to notice the white stuff??) She daintily held her dress up above the wet ground, her flawless makeup stayed in place, and the umbrella she had brought in case of “rain” was well used. We had ample time for photos around the Cardston Alberta Temple. Our original plan was to go to Waterton as well, but we were having fun where we were, that we decided to  stay put on safe roads. It was such a pleasure to photograph Ryan and Jolayne…and by noon the sun was shining (sort of)

Embarrased at how long these took me , but with more weddings, new fall shipments in the store, and one heck of a headcold.. here they are. I loved this wedding.. smaller, simpler, but very elegant with nothing but roses everywhere. I’ve had a lot of time to think since these were taken… and mull over in my mind what , exactly, makes a “great ” wedding photographer.. If I get caught up, I’ll actually put a post up and tell you what I “discovered”

Lethbridge Wedding Photographer/Father of the Bride plays double role September 7, 2010

Austin and Vanessa , both pharmacy students, had one of the sweetest weddings ever. She was so fun and bubbly, and so totally in love with Austin it was contagious! She also had the privilege of having her father walk her down the aisle, and then turn around and officiate in the wedding as he is a minister! How lucky was that? Vanessa definitely wins the most patient bride ever award!  My problem was that she was so fun, and so stinking gorgeous.. I  wanted to play around with each and every photo.! Watch  your mailbox, girly, you have an  awesome cd showing up soon!

Lethbridge Wedding Photographer/Through rain or wind or dark of night…. September 2, 2010

So.. Kennedy and Nicole had planned to do most of their wedding shots in a seperate shoot after their wedding. Then it rained, then I had holidays, then she was sick….so last night was the night. Anyone around here knows the forecast for last night was not good: “possible showers” turned to downpour, some hail, and a tornado watch! But, being adventurous, we braved the odds and went anyway. We kept warm in the suburban waiting for showers to pass and finally, we had a chance… but we weren’t expecting company. Funniest moments ever.
